Aims:
The primary aim of this study is to investigate how healthcare professionals in palliative care react and respond to a patient’s expressed desire for hastened death, exploring the approaches they take to managing this.
The secondary aim is to provide suggestions for the next steps in developing clear, clinical guidelines on how to respond to patients who express a desire for hastened death, to improve patient and healthcare professional’s communication and improve patient care by meeting the needs of this patient group through palliative interventions.
